Relative Phases are important connective words in Mandarin— smoothingthe connection between one sentence and another, and often used by Chinese people.This study begins with the collection of the definitions and the importance of Relative Phases, and then researches the types of Relative Phases. Following that, the meanings of Relative Phases teaching study are explored; the principle and strategy of teaching in Mandarin sentence pattern and in language are elaborated to make deduction about the teaching methodology for Mandarin Relative Phases. After that, the study focuses on the materials from Grade 1-9 Curriculum, by which a senior-grade student in elementary school learns. It discusses the Relative Phases in the current teaching material to compile statistics and draw a comparison, in order to provide reference for the publisher to edit and for the teachers to instruct. In addition, action research is employed, according to the principle of sentence pattern teaching, to arrange the daily teaching. Moreover, this study includes the actual teaching experience, offers the teaching strategy and the learning outcome of students. It is suggested to evaluate the Relative Phases from the viewpoint of integrating into context, basing on students’ learning experience, and providing students enough opportunities to practice. At the end of this study, the research results are presented.
