Abstract In this study, the researchers’ writing in the field of teaching language in elementary school is to design for practical action research. There are three purposes in this study : (1) To design suitable experiential writing curriculum for the researcher’s students. (2) To implement the experiential writing curriculum. (3) To comprehend the results from implementing the experiential writing curriculum. The design of experiential writing curriculum in this study will base on writing ability indicators from the Curriculum Guidelines of Nine-years Mandatory Compulsory Education, literature review as well as comply with student demands and choose appropriate teaching materials; designs for 4 experiential writing curriculum in super bubble, swings, popcorns and bike riding will base on D.A.Kolb’s 4-stage experiential learning mode in experience, reflection, induction and application.
The major findings in this study are as follows:
1. Understanding the needs of the students in writing can help teachers meet their interest in developing writing courses, so that these courses can make teaching writing more effective.
2. The theme, chosen to experience for a short time, provide different experiences and the most exciting activities, is the most effective.
3. Experiential writing course model is established by researcher; and the model is based on experienced activities, the dialogue between the teacher and the students, and the reflection to encourage their writing inspiration. Teacher and students discuss the completion of writing projects, their completion of the preliminary writing articles, reading articles and sharing with each other. Through the whole students review and retrace to carry out this project.
4. The main factors influence the experiential writing process are human resources, external environment constraints, and experience equipments. 5. The arrangements of occasion, the control of process, and the security of experience for experience of curriculum design must be considered in advance.
6. The model of experiential writing curriculum development can design the course to enhance students’ interests in writing.
7. The experiential writing courses can improve students’ writing performance.
Against the findings of the study, the researchers’ writing curriculum for the following suggestions:
1. Listen to the children’s voice, build an environment for children to experience and feel, enrich life experience of school-age children are ways to help children in coming up with own writing topics.
2. Because more time is needed for the experience writing course, thus one can consider integrating the course with experiential courses from other subjects to solve problems caused by insufficient time.
3. Conversation on post-experience reflection between the teacher and student may be utilized during the process of learning on how to write to help inspire students with difficulties in coming up with writing topics.
4. Before engaging in a more challenging experience activity, one should undergo more detailed activity planning to encourage the students in coming forward and accept the challenge as well as to leave the students with a memorable experience.
5. Experience from experience activities will vary according to the nature of the activity. A systematic future course planning is advised with focus on writing curriculum.
6. Experiential writing course planning may systematically start from a 4-stage angle with gradual stage addition.
7. In facing possible experience activity confinements, reading and moving-watching are alternatives worth trying. 8. Experience activities are helpful in coming up with topics for the composition. However, the student must engage himself/herself in learning more characters before he/she can transform the experience into words.
9. More manpower is needed to carry out experience activities. In the future, parents can consider forming systematic organizations to help carry out the activities effectively.
10. Provide a platform for post-writing presentation to help raise interests and enthusiasms in writing. It is a path worth trying.
