研究背景與目的:過去研究指出語言障礙與情緒行為問題之間有顯著的相關性,然而以三歲前幼兒為對象的研究結果仍有爭議。因此本研究以三歲前的晚說話幼兒為研究對象,並控制先前研究所爭議的干擾變項,包括認知遲緩、廣泛性發展障礙、早產、出生體重過輕等因素後,探討晚說話幼兒的情緒行為問題,以及語言遲緩與情緒行為問題的相關性。
研究方法:本研究採兩組比較的方式進行,實驗組為29位平均年齡為27個月的晚說話幼兒;對照組為29位年齡、性別與實驗組相配對的典型發展幼兒。兩組幼兒施測相同的評量,皆以零歲至三歲華語嬰幼兒溝通及語言篩檢測驗(CLST)和一歲半至五歲兒童行為檢核表(CBCL/1.5-5)進行評量,分別蒐集其語言發展及情緒行為問題的相關資料。
研究結果:1.晚說話幼兒在兒童行為檢核表中的分數達到臨床範圍的人數明顯多於典型發展幼兒。2.比起典型發展幼兒組,晚說話幼兒組在三個廣泛問題量尺(整體問題、內化問題、外化問題)、六個症狀分量尺(情緒反應、焦慮/憂鬱、退縮、睡眠問題、注意力問題、攻擊行為)以及其他問題分量尺的分數皆顯著較高。3.幼兒語言能力與情緒行為問題有顯著的負相關,其中以內化問題及退縮症狀的相關性最高。
結論與建議:晚說話幼兒呈現出顯著較多的情緒行為問題,特別是內化問題以及退縮症狀。因此建議臨床語言治療工作者可以將情緒行為問題納入晚說話幼兒的例行性評量之中;而未來研究者可持續追蹤或短期介入,觀察在語言發展進程中情緒行為問題的改變,更深入地了解兩者的關係。
Background & Objective: Language delay has been significantly associated with emotional and behavioral problems in preschool and school-age children. There has been some controversy as to whether a similar relationship already exists in toddlers. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between language ability and emotional and behavioral problems after controling the confounding variables including cognitive delay, pervasive developmental disorder, prematurity and low birth weight. In addition, the characteristics of the emotional and behavioral problems in late talkers were also investigated.
Method: There were two groups in this study and 29 toddlers in each group. A group of late talkers (LT), averaging 27 months of age, was contrasted with a group of typical toddlers (TD), matched for age and gender. Both groups of toddlers received the same assssements, using the Communication and Language Screenig Test (CLST) and Child Behavior Checklist/1.5-5 (CBCL/1.5-5) to obtain subjects’ data about language development and emotional/behavioral problems.
Result: 1. There were more toddlers’ CBCL/11/2-5 scores in LT group reach the clinical range than TD group. 2.The results showed that compared with TD group, the LT group proformance more significantly in three problems scales (total problems, internalizing problems, externalizing problems), six symptom subscales (emotionally reactive, anxious/depressed, withdrawn, sleep problems, aggressive behavior and attention problems) and other problems. 3. CLST score were significantly negative correlated with emotional and behavioral problems, especially in the internalizing scales and withdrawn symptom subscale.
Conclusions: Results of this study indicated that late talkers performance more emotional and behavioral problems than typical toddlers, especially in the internalizing problems and withdrawn.
