Death, solitude, and difference – these are all words that carry negative connotations. Yet in actual life experiences, situations depicted by these words may not necessarily be negative per se, but rather simply “dark.”
Darkness does not exist on its own; it exists because of light, or the lack thereof. Death itself is not evil, for life is a part of death, and death a part of life. They are each their own subject, providing counterpoint for each other. Life and death approach and companion each other throughout life experiences, thus making lives whole and complete. Indeed, death represents an end to the physical life; however, it does not void existence of its meaning. Instead, death presents the unassailable value of what once existed.
Solitude is the essence of existence; it is also a part of life. There exist various kinds of differences between individuals, forming immense gaps that prevent individuals from ever truly understanding one another’s thoughts. Meanwhile, solitude is also the default state of existence. It allows us to break loose from groups, become individuals, and begin to acquire the value of being an individual.
My works move away from the superficial misconception of solitude and towards the discovery of different facets of life – peace of mind in the face of change, resilience in the face of life, a dialogue with self, or a loss of self, of soul, and of the dialogue.
I converse with and face myself through my works. I raise questions regarding life; I ask what the meaning of life is, and how we face death. I hope to achieve metamorphoses and breakthroughs with my works, to create works that can touch lives, including my own. I am embodied in the collection of my works; I hope my works can enrich and nourish my soul with the truth of life, reflect the universals of life, and, eventually, find resonance in life.
