A Case Study of Ch’ien Mu’s Instructing And Learning Abstract
This study is based on the educational perspective to discuss the implementation of Ch’ien Mu’s ideal on statecraft. The purpose of this research is both focused on Ch’ien Mu’s instructing and learning. By exploring Ch’ien Mu’s academic culture and discovering his educational thoughts and the implementation of education, this study serves to be a guidance for practical teaching in the future and nowadays. There are eight parts of this study: chapter 1 is preface which introduces motivation, purpose, and method of the topic; chapter 2 integrates Ch’ien Mu’s life and academic works in which readers realize how he developed his educational concepts and beliefs; chapter 3 discusses Ch’ien Mu’s views on education and his learning attitude as well as method; chapter 4 and 5 are the origin and intension of Ch’ien Mu’s educational thoughts, and also state how he suggested for the reconstruction for educational etiquette, tertiary education, and secondary education on the basis of confucianists, elaborating on his educational opinions of language, historical culture, and morality; chapter 6 integrates the ideal and process on establishing New Asia College which is filled with New Asia spirits and learning atmosphere, revealing Ch’ien Mu’s special efforts for passing on the traditional Chinese culture; chapter 7 poses inspirations for contemporary education according to Ch’ien Mu’s instructing and learning; chapter 8 concludes the results and deficiencies of this study, and also poses the furthering aspects of the research.
