The completion of art picture book rely on creators’ specialties in both children's literature and art education; meanwhile, adult or child viewers may not share the same perspectives and evaluations toward the same materials. Su Zhenming, the art researcher specialized in picture book once said (2002): "Art picture book is not only the exhibition printed on the book, but also the paper gallery that never closes." So when one art picture book is created with a specialization in children’s point of view, it generates various ideas from different viewers, which leads to the demands of our research.
Conceived by the idea and the book "My Li Mei-Shu" as the study sample, our study has three purposes: (1) To explore the creative concepts of art picture book art based on children's point of view. (2) To analyze the graphical characteristics and text content of the art picture book, "My Li Mei-Shu." (3) To compare the different perceptions from children and adult readers about "My Li Mei-Shu."
This study conducts the following conclusions through the different methods such as content analysis, interviews, and questionnaires: (1) The creative concept of art picture book based on children's point of view is to let the creators transform into children as a subject, who chooses the more affectionate and attractive matters in accordance with children's cognitive ability and aesthetical appreciation. (2) Since "My Li Mei-Shu" is created based on children's point of view as the subject matter of 3rd-grade students’ reading report, the nine year-old children’s work shows the impeccable innocence and exaggerated portraits in whether the tone of writing or the illustrative techniques. Therefore, these characteristic qualities bring the children readers and book much closer. (3) Both the children and adult readers acknowledge "My Li Mei-Shu" as the creation based on children's point of view, thus the book jumps off the limitations of art history and textbook for adults; but in terms of the definition of “creation and realization based on children's point of view,” the discrepancy of cognition and perception between children and adults still exits.
