The study is entitled “The Study on the Character Education Implication in Historical Biographies of “Shih-Chi” to explore the meaning and implication of character education in seventy historical biographies. The purpose of the study is to analyze the stories in historical biography in “Shih-Chi” and discuss the implicated character education. The functions of how the ancient “Shih-Chi” historical biographies influence current character education were clarified and the appropriate “Shih-Chi” historical biographies as the material for character education were also selected.
The research motives, purposes and methods were addressed firstly and the research value of this thesis was confirmed through literature survey and discussion. Secondly, the meaning and significance of character education were proposed. In addition, the educational function of history biography was clarified by exploring the writing characteristics and core purport in “Shih-Chi” historical biographies. Then, we documentarily analyzed each spiritual meaning conveyed in “Shih-Chi” historical biographies to explore the implied core value of character education and narrated the enlightenment it shows in character education topics. The adaptability of “Shih-Chi” historical biography was promoted hereby and the value, influence and contribution which the historical biographies possess were further explained. At last, the conclusion of this study is made.
The result of this study provided not only a model material for character education to encourage other researchers for related discussion of every type of Chinese classics but we also expect teachers to base on it and consider utilizing more ancient classics as the material for character education in order to look after both culture inheritance and character modeling in child education.
