高白爾(Philippe Gaubert, 1879-1941)，為法國長笛學派中重要的長笛家、教師、指揮家兼作曲家；高白爾的音樂演奏和創作風格受其恩師塔法奈爾的影響，也承襲了當時法國長笛學派一貫的理念：豐富而多變的音樂性、流暢而快速的演奏技巧，因此高白爾的音樂風格與此並行不悖；由於本身是優異的長笛演奏家，在創作樂曲時更能展現這個樂器的優勢。
高白爾共創作了三首長笛奏鳴曲，《A大調長笛與鋼琴奏鳴曲》創作於1917年，標題是獻給恩師塔法奈爾。這首奏鳴曲能展現出吹奏長笛的技巧和音樂表現的能力，且鋼琴與長笛的地位與分量是相當的。
本文共分為六章，第一章緒論，第二章研究十九世紀末、二十世紀初法國音樂的時代背景、音樂發展、作曲家高白爾的生平以及音樂風格、作品特色，第三章為奏鳴曲與奏鳴曲式的發展，第四章為《A大調長笛與鋼琴奏鳴曲》的創作背景與曲式分析，第五章則是各樂章的詮釋演奏報告，包含節奏、旋律、速度、力度、表情、音樂性、與鋼琴合作要點，第六章歸納並總結以上之要項為結語。

Philippe Gaubert (1879-1941), is one of the most important flutist, teacher, conductor and composer of the French Flute School. His music and composing style is affected profoundly by the distinguished flutist - Paul Taffanel. Besides, Gaubert also inherited the spirit of the French Flute School: rich and varied music, fluid and fast playing skills, rhythmic precision, vivid tone colors. As an outstanding flutist, Gaubert is able to make the best use of flute when composing.
Gaubert’s sonatas for flute and piano consist of three works. The Sonata for flute and piano in A major composed on 1917 was dedicated to his beloved teacher- P. Taffanel. The Sonata differs from the classical sonata. It demonstrates the skills of flute-playing and the music performance. The importance of flute and piano parts are equal.
The thesis is entitled “An Analysis and Interpretation of Philippe Gaubert’s Sonata in A major for Flute and Piano” and comprised of six chapters. The first chapter reveals the research motive and methodology. The second chapter introduces the French Flute School, Gaubert’s life, music and compositional style. The third chapter is a research in developing of sonata and sonata form. The fourth chapter is an explanation about the background of creating, and analysis of the flute sonata. The fifth chapter is an interpretation of the performance details. The sixth chapter is the conclusion of the Sonata.
