本文係從社會資本的概念，探討近30年來移居美國、澳洲及紐西蘭等地之臺灣第一代移民者，如何透過華人基督教地方召會在海外所建立之互動平台，譜寫他們的跨國移民故事。文章中探討三大主軸包括：第一、教會的社群結構如何？教會如何幫助海外臺灣移民在移居地建構其社會網絡？第二、臺灣第一代移民對於教會的認知為何？該社群有何共同的特徵？第三、海外臺灣移民與教會所建構形成之關係型態為何？

經過質性研究的深度訪談發現，華人基督教地方召會藉著發揮社會資本在結構、認知與關係之內涵，使海外臺灣移民能夠在全球各地所建立之地方性據點，適應當地的生活。教會是臺灣移民信徒生活的中心，藉著與教會網絡的連結，海外臺灣移民從中汲取社會資本的養分，在不斷有聖經教導為基礎而進行的社會性結合與交換過程中，成員彼此間擁有較高程度的認知與關係構面的社會資本，並使教會得以維持網絡關係的生機性平衡。海外臺灣移民憑藉於基督信仰，為使教會能夠合一，他們願意跨越個人、層級、國籍等異質性元素，建立屬天的家人關係，一同面對移居生活的各項挑戰，並且一同有分於移居地的福音傳揚與開展。

This thesis seeks to clarify the significance and function of the Christian-based community organizations for overseas Taiwanese immigrants in the recent 30 years. It aims to show how the Chinese Christian church helps with the life adaptation of the first-generation immigrants from Taiwan. Rooted in the concept of social capital, this thesis focuses on three main issues. The first focus is placed on how the Christian church, the network of relationships, constitutes a valuable resource and provides the immigrants with the collective-owned capital. The second concern of the research is to find out how the immigrants constitute a shared cognition, and what the common symbols and collective narratives are within the community. And the last part of the research is to observe what types of the relationships exist between the immigrant and the church.

By means of in-depth interviews, this research has found out that the overseas Chinese Christian church functions as social capital and plays an important role in terms of the structural, cognitive, and relational dimensions. Overseas Taiwanese immigrants are able to develop primary and intimate relationships in the church through the network established by the church. In the process of social exchange and combination accompanied with the instruction from the Bible, the church members may gain abundant and substantial social capital and the church-based network gets to sustain in its organic balancing. With the purpose of oneness, the Christian church helps the immigrants overcome the barriers from individual difference, class distinction, and national boundaries. Through the gospel in every good land, the overseas Chinese church helps the immigrants socially and spiritually when they are confronted with challenges and difficulties.
