The aim of the research is to study the attribute of the content and educational function in the column of the Mandarin Daily News. In addition, the application of the reading strategies in language instruction in the elementary school can exert the Mandarin Daily News as a supplemental role in the Mandarin curriculum teaching material, which affirms Mandarin Daily News in practicing Newspaper in Education. After generalizing the column of the Mandarin Daily News, the finding not only shows the quality of the education in children’s literature but also presents the level of writing ability to the elementary school students. Moreover, analyzing the relation between the column of the Mandarin Daily News and the Mandarin teaching material appears the result that both of them comprehend with similarity and difference which support each other. Besides, applying prediction, inquiry, summary, and note taking as reading strategies in the columns of Mandarin Daily News to language instruction can help students digest the information when they read the newspaper. The strategies accomplish the goal of learning which are combining listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Therefore, the result of this study not only examines the application of Mandarin Daily News in Newspaper in Education efficiently but also improves students’ language ability. Thus, the application of the reading strategies in this study can be an effective reference in the future for the research, which is assisting Mandarin Daily News in class. Furthermore, the interaction between columns of Mandarin Daily News for newspaper reading efficiency will also provide valuable reference to the relevant study in the future. |
