Main purpose of this study is to discuss feasible teaching activities on practices and effects for learning motivation and learning effectiveness when learning community concept is applied to Grade II teaching at an elementary school in Taipei. The study adopts action research method and collects multivariate data, including live classroom observation, teacher reflection journals, students’ questionnaire, students’ interview records, collaborative observations reviews and so on. Then the results integrate the views of teachers and students in order to understand the connotation of learning community profoundly. This study takes students of a Grade II class at Taipei Municipal San-Xing Elementary School as research objects. The implementation of seat arrangements, which is taken as a quick start, is changed from traditionally linear arrangement facing to the blackboard to ㄇ shape one. Furthermore, the teaching subjects and activities, which conform to learning community concept, are implemented periodically. Then according to the observation and discovery in study periods, the experiences provide reference basis for next period of seat arrangement modification and teaching activity design. From the results this study discovers a couple of conclusions. On seat arrangement aspect, students may select different seat arrangements for different blackboard angles, convenience of space availability, convenience of discussions with classmates and other factors that most students feel happy and necessary to discuss and learn to each other. Furthermore, it is conductive to improve learning motivation and learning effectiveness by seat arrangements. On teaching activity design aspect, after changing ideas of activity arrangements, which switch teacher instructions from main content in the classroom to student discussion and sharing, the listening and expression capabilities of students are also enhanced. Furthermore, the students believe that it is interesting, significant and quite effective when having discussion and learning together with others. The study results can be provided to teachers on education sites and taken as references for teaching and following related studies with application of Learning Community concept.
